Servicing your Mobility Van, Truck, Car or SUV
Even the most well engineered vehicles out there need to be serviced from time to time so it is crucial that you ensure your ability to have your means of transportation maintained and repaired! There are a few things that affect how easily mobility vans can be serviced.
- Van Conversion Type
- Additional Mobility Adaptions
- Mobility Van, Truck, Car or SUV base vehicle
Van Conversion Type
Van modifications directly impact how your mobility vehicle is serviced in one very critical way. Simply put, the more the vehicle deviates from its original form, the more specialized the repair facility must be. While it is true that all of the major lowered floor minivan manufacturers perform intensive surgery, on their vehicles there are a few important differences. When researching your mobility van purchase, be sure to ask all of these questions:
- How much of the conversion can be repaired with off-the-shelf parts?
- Does your conversion use spacers on the front end, which can result in vibrations and a worn front axle?
- Does your conversion kneel*?
- Do you modify or interface in any way with the vehicle's main cpu? If so, does this void the warranty?
- Can your conversion be serviced by any ASE certified mechanic?
* Don't be fooled by the flowery language surrounding the kneeling systems installed by many vehicle modifiers! In some cases, the kneel system is only necessitated by the fact that the vehicle is actually RAISED first by spacers in the front end.
Additional Mobility Adaptations
Many specific modifications can only be serviced by licensed mobility providers. If your vehicle is going to have hand controls, a transfer seat, or any one of the other permanently installed features, be sure to locate a nearby place to have those items serviced.
Mobility Van, Truck, Car or SUV base vehicle
A conversion's base vehicle is just as important when seeking service as the conversion itself. What good is your van if you aren't able to have the engine repaired, or if no one can tell what that "check engine" light means? Be sure that you have a nearby mechanic or dealer that can help you out if your vehicle ever has a problem!
